Everyone knows a couple like Jack and Grace. He has looks and wealth, she has charm and elegance. You might not want to like them, but you do. You’d like to get to know Grace better. But it’s difficult, because you realise Jack and Grace are never apart. Some might call this true love. Others might ask why Grace never answers the phone. Or how she can never meet for coffee, even though she doesn’t work. How she can cook such elaborate meals but remain so slim. And why there are bars on one of the bedroom windows. Sometimes, the perfect marriage is the perfect lie.

Behind Close DoorsI stumbled across Behind Closed Doors by B A Paris browsing on Amazon – so keywords and all of that do really help authors find readers. This psychological thriller is published by MIRA, an imprint of Harlequin and the author lives in France, as I do, so I wondered if I might run into her someday.

Well, I won’t run into her if her life is anything like the heroine in this book.

Grace and Jack look like the perfect couple. They live way outside London in a perfect house, throwing perfect dinner parties and appearing to be blissfully happy. Of course, that’s not what’s really happening once they’ve bid their guests good night and shut their big fancy gate and retire for bed…

While I read this quickly and wanted to know what would happen, there was a certain quality to the writing and how the story unfolded that kept me on my toes with frustration more than suspense. I could not quite swallow the plot here, but did want to know how B A Paris would resolve it. Just when I was ready to chuck my e-reader across the room, the resolution kicked in and let me tell you – it was utterly satisfying and a great surprise. So I’ll give this 4 stars out of 5 because despite the plot being far-fetched and a little thin, it was ultimately a gripping domestic suspense so it delivers on its hook!

My rating: 4 out of 5 stars.
